Tucked away in the peaceful North Norfolk countryside, this remarkable early eighteenth century Non Conformist Congregational Chapel offers a highly atmospheric and historically rich filming location. Cleverly designed to resemble a modest residential dwelling from the outside, the red brick building reveals a striking chapel interior once inside, complete with original architectural features and beautifully preserved character.
Constructed from traditional red brick and distinguished by its unusual double curved Flemish gables, the building retains many of its original eighteenth century elements. The main chapel space features rows of historic wooden pews, pale painted galleries supported by slender columns and soft natural light filtering through tall windows. The gallery level still houses the original eighteenth century box pews, creating a distinctive and rarely seen historical detail that adds depth and authenticity to the interior.
The chapel offers excellent practical facilities for production. Adjacent rooms include two lavatories, a shower and wash basins, along with a small kitchen and a bedroom which can easily function as a wardrobe or green room for cast and crew. The building also benefits from lighting, heating, Wi Fi, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, making it well suited to working productions.
Musical features include pianos and an organ within the chapel space, further enhancing its period character.
The chapel sits within generous surrounding grounds including open grass areas, hedges and mature trees, with historic headstones located nearby. Additional neighbouring buildings including the Coach House and the Manse may also offer further filming opportunities. The rural setting provides a quiet and private environment with ample parking available for production vehicles.
With its rare preserved interior, unusual disguised exterior and secluded countryside setting, this unique chapel offers a compelling and versatile backdrop for period drama, documentary work, music performances and atmospheric film scenes.
